| test na slo-minimoto.com Dodobra stestiran ZPF 2006! [ Vpisal Play] Tremendous openness and attention towards all aspects of the pocket motor world have always been the trademarks of the well-known brand ZPF. In fact, it’s thanks to these qualities that we of the staff of MINIMOTORACING have had the good luck to be able to test the most successful new offering of 2006 on the “Premoli” circuit of Codogno. This 2006 version is the evolution of a pocketbike that represents a cross between past and future of the company from Brescia, which, in 2005, lost it founder and creator of its most successful model (205), Pier Franco Zanetti. Zanetti has since been ably replaced by his son Stefano, who together with the rest of the family is carrying forward one of the most world-renowned companies in the pocket motor industry. An aggressive line is one of the characteristics which renders this 206 decidedly ‘racing’. It presents a captivating front fairing , perhaps one of the most beautiful in its class, contrasting with the somewhat questionable tail. Stefano brought us a splendid Yamaha 50th anniversary replica that was so beautiful that we could easily overlook minor line defects. TECHNICAL DATA Motor: zpf with Polini cylinder or bzm by request Startup: self-rewinding Tailpipe: racing Carburator: Dell'Orto SHA14/14 PHBG 15 0r 19 Tires: from 6.5inches Frame: steel high-resistance tubes Hubcaps: ZPF alloy brake: alluminum ZPF Brake discs: anterior from 150mm, posterior from 125mm. Fairing and seat: in fiberglass Clutch settings for test: 8900 rpm SEAT SPACE: Good seat space. Makes the 206 decidedly comfortable and permits easy movement, thanks also to a well-rounded tail. With easy adaptability, after just a few curves it’s possible to feel at ease and find the right weight positioning. PILOT POSITIONING: Thanks to the positioning of the footrests, the bike gives a good sense of comfort without taking away from the sportiness and aggressivity of the drive. Movement on the pedals is agile; in fact it’s decidedly easy to shift weight sideways and quickly find the ideal center of gravity inside the curve. BRAKING: The braking system doesn’t seem to block up violently, make the braking action soft but effective. The 206 is stable and precise in the braking phase. CURVE ENTRY: Thanks to the ease of movement in the seat, insertion into the curve is easy and drivable, giving the impression that it doesn’t tire the pilot out. The stability of the anterior wheel in the insertion phase is optimum, transmitting an optimum feeling to the pilot, even in the most aggressive curve entries. FAST CURVES: The only blemish on the 206 in the big curves, where, forcing the entry in fast straight lengths, it tends to widen lightly in the running phase without permitting the pilot to re-open the gas quickly. This characteristic is noticeable only when the pocketbike is pushed to the limit; driving ‘hard’ but not at the limit this characteristic disappears transmitting a sense of stability to the pilot, maintaining the ideal line without widening. MIXED TIGHT CURVES: Direction change is the characteristic most influenced by the pocket-bike’s setup. With ‘soft’ shocks, the 206 is a challenge to turn in the S curves and hairpins. Completely hardening the anterior shocks, everything changes; decidedly reactive and really fun to drive, especially in the slow runs and in direction changes. (Note: the adjustment of the shock absorbers is one of the fundamental variables which depend on the driving style of the pilot). MOTOR: ZPF has always shown to be particularly attentive to the motor aspects of its models, realizing carter ZPF on which it is possible to mount Polini, Malossi and BZM cylinders. We tried out the Polini cylinder and this solution turned out to be very exploitable. Ready in acceleration from the lower regime up to an optimal lengthening, this has always been a principal characteristic of ZPF motors. Slightly lowered as soon as the weather conditions changed. AESTHETICS: Captivating and at the same time very aggressive and sleek the front lines, but curious the ‘lifted’ solution chosen for the rear fairing. | |

| TEST IZ TUJINE TEST :: GRC MIX For the first time since its birth, thanks to the collaboration between GRC and GM Moto, Minimotoracing has an opportunity to test a new pocket bike. Opening the dance of minimotoracing testing is GRC Mix, a new realization of the Italian company, which will augment the vast gamut of pocket bike products offered to the public. GRC Mix looks like its big sister ‘RR’, but differs markedly from her, notably in technical aspects. GRC Mix is manufactured with three different motorizations on the Polini base: 4.2 hp, 6,2 hp and 7 hp, and a motorization on the BZM base: 11 hp 3 pouring coupled with 4 different colors: neutral, yellow, red and black. GRC has adopted several qualitative modifications to lower production costs, thus lowering its price to the public, and which nonetheless render the bike a lot of fun to ride. All of the models adopt the same technical configuration except for cooling, which in the versions from 7 to 11 hp is liquid, while in the 4.2 and 6.2 hp is air-cooled: SH14 carburator, standard air filter and muffler (racing muffler in the 11 hp), racing rims and wheel hubs, PMT tyres type B complete the general structure of the newborn GRC Mix Aesthetically, the Mix faithfully replicates the GRC RR used by official pilots in the Italian Championship; the fairings are in ABS and no longer in fiberglass as in the past. The frame is completely painted in black, making the bike even more captivating. At the Codogno track, Minimotoracing tested the Mix with the Polini 7 hp enginer, finding it to be really fun, and adaptable to diverse piloting styles. Seat comfort is one of GRC’s principle characteristics and the Italian company’s newest arrival fully maintains this legacy. The absence of the steering shock absorber isn’t noticeable under ‘normal’ driving conditions; once one gains confidence in driving the pocket bike, problems begin to be felt and in certain conditions the bike moves abruptly, nonetheless it transmits a sense of security to the pilot. The 7 hp of the engine, with respect to a traditional ‘competition-ready’, don’t require the use of the steering shock absorber during acceleration, rather during directional changes; after a few practice laps even this need is cancelled, creating an excellent pocket bike/pilot mix. The seemingly limited power after a few laps transforms into a pleasure for the pilot, who can open the gas quite early, exploiting the sweetness of its delivery to the engine. The GRC Mix was not conceived as a competition bike – don’t expect optimum chronometric results, even if during our tests we were able to clock a ‘high’ 44 sec, which demonstrates that even in the absence of power, anything is possible. The Mix is sold with PMT B mix no slick tires. These, too, have been demonstrated to be optimum, offering an impeccable grip; the lower power of the bike means the higher performance PMT T41Slick tires are not necessary. After a few laps ‘pushing it’, during violent brakes the Mix tends to lengthen in breaking, very probably due to a non-optimal tire. A problem resolvable at the first substitution of the brake shoes… Mechanical accessibility is a strong point for the GRC Mix, developed over years of competition and brought to the service of all GRC owners. In just a few seconds, unscrewing 5 bolts, it’s possible to easily remove all of the fairings, gaining access to most of the critical mechanical components, thanks also to the spaciousness of the body, structured in tubes. The detailing is also of the best quality. Overall, a positive evaluation for this new GRC model, an optimum solution for approaching the pocket bike world with an eye to costs. The Mix can satisfy both the rider at his or her first experience, and the experienced pilot who loves to have fun without needing a high-powered engine. [ Vpisal Play] | |

| TEST IZ TUJINE TEST: DM OFFICIAL MIDI 2006 The Minimotoracing staff is always busy; we don’t stop at publishing news that’s already known – we go into the news. In fact, with this article we open a series of tests which are aimed at highlighting the behavior of vehicles in a range of situations, la grafica and the technical solutions used. These test summaries will be completed by images of the tests themselves, a by now consolidated style which bets it all on professionalism, as is the Minimotoracing norm. Thanks to the collaboration of the Bolognese company DM and of Nesco Racing, retailer for DM at Casalpusterlengo (LO), we’ve had the opportunity to test the DM Official Midi 2006 on the ‘Premoli’ circuit in Codogno. Aesthetically the bike respects the classic DM line, become famous over the course of the years through numerous victories in national and European fields. Even the frame is traditional in molybdenum chrome, mounted exclusively on DM pocket bikes, elastic and manageable with a tail in aluminium and inferiore engine support a clamp; fork with aluminium, aluminium handlebars with clips. Aluminum wheels with an anodized 6-ray design. Revolutionary rear fork lets you adjust the configuration of the bike with a patented system. BZM 14 HP engine competition-prepared at 12000 rpm, Dell’Orto carburator PHBG 18BS, official muffler with stainless steel silencer. Thanks to the generous collaboration of GP One Racing Parts we’ve mounted a splendid chronometric system on the Official DM which has been of great help in time taking. In order to be more precise in our evaluations we’ve used numerous evaluation criteria which will remain unchanged for the other minimoto we’ll test in the future. CLUTCH: 8900 rpm SEAT SPACE: the small amount of space available on the seat is one of the DM Official characteristics which doesn’t leave much possibilità of movement (forward/backward), in favor of a more static driving style on the seat, also due to the large gas tank which inhibits movement of the legs towards the inside. PILOT POSITION: Foot position on the pedals not entirely comfortable, however permits quick and precise movement in the appoggio phase and direction change. BRAKING: Not particularly reactive in the braking phase, but effective. This aspect permits the rider to concentrate on the bike’s entry into the curve. CURVE ENTRY: The DM Official Midi is decidedly precise in curve entry and maintains the ideal line optimally. The frame’s structure doesn’t permit ‘easy’ insertion, but requires using the arms to ‘throw it in’… THROUGH THE CURVE: Maybe one of its best qualities. Once inserted and following the arc, the DM follows the trajectory well, demonstrating its precision enough to transmit an optimal feeling to the pilot who can correct even small alignment errors without compromising the course much. EXIT: Smooth and linear acceleration which permits the body to avoid moving too much. Despite the somewhat rigid configuration, the bike absorbs weight shifting from acceleration well, transmitting a sense of security to the pilot in the opening. A very important aspect because the exit of the curve is a key point in being competitive in the minimoto field. FAST CURVES: In big, fast curves the bike conserves its running qualities; forcing entry tends to widen slightly at center curve, however without unexpectly losing adherence. TIGHT MIXED CURVES: Optimal in direction change. Fast and stable in running without transmitting much the specific movements to the pilot. MOTOR: Carter and BZM Cylinder for a good compromise between acceleration and progression, penalizing a bit in the straightaway due to a carburetion not suited to the weather conditions of the trial day. AESTHETICS: By now, DM has kept its lines for 3 years, decidedly angular but unique, characteristic of the Bolognese house which has established its own identity over the years. The DM Official was certainly a pleasure to ride, but not ideal for all piloting styles. In particular, our tester, used to closing the left knee into his arm through right curves, had to change his riding style to adapt to the black Bolognese bike which, despite this, was still a lot of fun on the track. NOTE: The opinions expressed in this track test are completely personal, therefore subjective. Any time we perform tests we strive for objectivity and impartiality [ Vpisal Play] | |
